One of three men charged in connection with the discovery of explosives in Howth in January has been charged at the Special Criminal Court with IRA membership. Mr Eamonn Flanagan (42), of The Square, Skerries, Co Dublin, was charged yesterday with IRA membership on January 5th.

Mr Flanagan and two other men, Mr Seamus McLoughlin (66), of Balkill Park, Howth, and Mr Joseph Dillon (52), of Green Lawn, Skerries, already face explosives charges. They were charged in January after gardai discovered 11/2 tonnes of homemade explosives in Howth.

Mr Flanagan and Mr Mc Loughlin were charged with possessing an explosive substance with intent to endanger life at West Pier, Howth, Co Dublin, on January 5th. Mr Dillon was charged with possessing an explosive substance with intent to endanger life at Golflinks Road, Bettystown, Co Meath, on the same date.

They were remanded on continuing bail until May 13th.
