A man was yesterday charged with the murder of Mr Edward Cully, a Limerick teenager who was stabbed to death in the city at the weekend.
Mr Keith McMahon (19), of Shanaboolly Road, Ballynanty, Limerick, was charged at Limerick District Court with the murder of Mr Cully (18) at Merval Crescent, Clarview, on Sunday morning.
A solicitor for the accused, Mr Ted McCarthy, said that his client was unemployed and applied for legal aid.
Det-Garda Jim Carmody said that he charged Mr McMahon at Henry Street Garda station on Sunday night. Insp Jim Browne asked Judge Tom O'Donnell to remand the accused in custody until later this week.
Judge O'Donnell agreed and said that, given the nature of the charge, the question of bail was a matter for the High Court. He remanded Mr McMahon in custody until next Thursday, when he will appear again before Limerick District Court.
