A Co Offaly man was acquitted by a jury yesterday of raping his daughter in 1991 and 1993. The verdicts at the Central Criminal Court came after eight hours deliberation by the jury of seven men and five women.
The 41-year-old man was cleared of seven charges and was discharged by Mr Justice Morris. He had denied the charges during his five-day trial. The jury found him not guilty of raping his daughter, having unlawful carnal knowledge and sexually assaulting her on or about March 1991, and again in 1993. He was also found not guilty of a further charge of sexually assaulting her from April 1991, to May 1993.
