A Galway man has been acquitted of repeatedly raping his younger sister almost 30 years ago.
The 55-year-old man had pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to indecently assaulting his younger sister in the family home, and later raping her between January 1971 and August 1980.
The jury took 6½ hours to find him not guilty of eight charges of raping his sister. It failed to reach a verdict on 12 counts of indecent assault of his sister between January 1971 and January 1977.
Mr Justice Barry White listed the case for mention next month.
