A Cork man has been found not guilty by a jury at the Central Criminal Court of buggering and sexually assaulting a cerebral palsy sufferer almost four years ago. The jury found the man guilty of assault.
Mr Justice Smith imposed a six-month sentence, but discharged the defendant after being told he had already served six months and two days in custody for a conviction in a previous trial on the same matter. The 29-year-old man cannot be named. He had denied three charges of buggery, sexual assault and assault causing harm on March 20th, 1997.
