A Co Cork man, charged with sexual assault and rape of a woman in Glasgow five years ago, has been refused bail by the High Court while he awaits the outcome of extradition proceedings.
Insp Henry Campbell of the Strathclyde Police told Ms Pauline Walley, counsel for the State, that Mr Cornelius Stanton (24) had failed to turn up for his trial at Glasgow High Court in 1993.
Det Sgt Michael Heffernan told Mr Bernard Condon, counsel for Mr Stanton, that when he arrested the accused earlier this year in Cork, Mr Stanton told him he was homeless.
Mr Justice Peter Shanley said it was accepted by both sides that Mr Stanton had absconded from Scotland.
