A man whose body was found in a shallow grave in the Dublin mountains died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head, Dublin Coroner’s Court heard.
The body of James Kenny McDonagh (28), Islandbridge Court, near Kilmainham, was found in a wooded area of Slievenabawnoge near the Military Road outside Tallaght by hillwalkers on January 8th. A skull and other bones were recovered following the discovery. Mr Kenny McDonagh had been missing for more than three months.
At the opening of the inquest into his death yesterday, Det Garda Insp Seán Campbell told the court that the murder and the circumstances around it remained an ongoing investigation. He requested a six-month adjournment.
The court heard that Mr Kenny McDonagh’s remains had been identified beyond all reasonable doubt using a combination of DNA profiling, forensic anthropology and dental records.
Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jabbar carried out the postmortem and he gave the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head.
Coroner Dr Brian Farrell adjourned the inquest for further mention on September 25th to allow time for gardaí to complete their investigation.
