A man who collapsed in Pearse Street Garda station in Dublin on Thursday night died less than an hour later in the Meath Hospital. Mr Norman McGrath (48) of Ballyfermot was arrested for larceny after leaving the Fianna Fail annual Christmas drinks party for the media at Leinster House.
It is believed he was taken to the function by a journalist. A member of staff reported the theft of a leather jacket belonging to one of the journalists present. Mr McGrath was then arrested in Kildare Street and taken to Pearse Street at about 9.15 p.m. where he collapsed. He was taken to the Meath Hospital and died at 10 p.m. A post-mortem will take place. Mr McGrath lived in Ballyfermot with a daughter.
