Emergency services and gardaí were called to the area at Ballybough bridge, Dublin 1, at about 6.30am, where it is believed a 22 year old man had fallen into the water.

He was taken from the water and subsequently removed to the Mater hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, a Garda statement said.

Investigating gardaí have appealed to anyone who was in the area between about 6am and 6.30am, or anyone who may have information, to contact them at Fitzgibbon Street station, or any Garda station.
