A MAN died in Howth, Co Dublin, yesterday afternoon after the car which he was in plunged into the sea.
It is understood the car, which went off an open pier with two men on board, may have been on a test drive from a garage.
A man in his 20s managed to escape from the car and was uninjured.
The incident took place on Howth middle pier at about 3.15pm.
A fire service unit, Howth lifeboat and local gardaí arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.
A diver arrived on the scene at about 4.10pm, and recovered the body of the deceased man.
Coast Guard booms were placed in the water to mark the location of the car at about 5pm. This was pending the expected removal of the car from the water with a crane.
