An SDLP politician has called for greater education on farm safety after a man died at the weekend in Co Tyrone.
Jackie McCooey (76) fell into a piece of cattle-feeding equipment on Friday night at his farm, on the Killybracken Road, near Dungannon.
His death comes just six weeks after three men from one family – Noel Spence and his two sons, Nevin and Graham – died after falling into a slurry pit in Co Down.
Omagh SDLP MLA Joe Byrne said the latest accident was a “terrible reminder of the dangers of farm work.

“It’s particularly sad for this family as Jackie’s son was recently married . . .
“No matter how experienced farmers are, when the dark nights come in and you have wet and cold weather, accidents will happen.”
