A man in his 30s drowned at Brandon Creek, near Ballydavid, Co Kerry yesterday. The incident began at 3.15 p.m. when two men aboard a currach got into difficulties. The currach capsized and one of the men managed to swim to shore where he raised the alarm.
Fenit Lifeboat, the Dingle unit of the Irish Marine Emergency Service and the air-ambulance service at Shannon were called to the scene.
The body of the local man was taken to Tralee General Hospital.
A post-mortem will take place this morning.
