A judge told a defendant he had caused “a lot of hassle” by not turning up for his trial for cannabis possession and driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

Damien Gilson (35, with an address at Raglan Road, Dublin, has been accused of driving “under the influence of an intoxicant” at Diswellstown Road and dangerous driving at the Phoenix Park, on September 8th, 2010. He had pleaded not guilty. When he did not turn up at Dublin District Court yesterday a bench warrant for his arrest was issued. He then turned up after the court had risen. Defence solicitor Michael O’Connor told Judge Timothy Lucey Mr Gilson had “confused his date”.
