A Galway man who threw a bucket of water over a traffic warden who tried to give him a parking ticket was fined £200 at Galway District Court yesterday. Declan Sweeney (48), Knocknacarra Park, Galway, admitted assaulting traffic warden Mr Peter Devlin outside his bicycle shop at Queen Street, Galway, on May 21st. Insp Tony O'Donnell said Sweeney's car was parked illegally. Mr Devlin told him to move the car and said he would be back later to check. When he called back Sweeney was washing the car and when he went to issue a parking ticket, Sweeney picked up the bucket of water and poured it over him. Sweeney said he wanted to apologise to the court. Judge John Garavan said Mr Devlin was only doing his job and Sweeney had acted disgracefully.
