A post-mortem examination will be carried out this morning on a man who died in a holding cell at Rathmines Garda Station yesterday.
The body of the 52-year-old, detained the previous night for being drunk, was discovered shortly after midday yesterday, the Garda said. He was alone in the cell at the time.
Although the man was known to the gardai, he will not be formally identified until today. Gardai have had difficulties contacting his relatives. According to the Garda at Rathmines, the man was checked every 15 minutes, as required by regulations.
