A man in his 30s was found dead in the garden of a house in Castlebar, Co Mayo after being involved in a row with another man near his house.
Liam McDonnell, a married man in his thirties, was found in a badly injured condition by Gardai in the garden of a house in the town when gardai answered a 999 call just after 4 a.m.
Mr McDonnell was rushed by ambulance to Mayo General Hospital where he died a short time afterwards.
The scene of in the Rossmore housing estate in Castlebar has been sealed off for technical examination. The State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy will perform a post mortem examination later today.
Chief Supt John Carey, head of the Mayo Garda Division, issued a statement in which he said gardai are following a "definite line of enquiry" into the incident.
