A divorced Co Cork man has been found guilty of raping his sister almost 30 years ago at their rural home by a jury at the Central Criminal Court. The jury reached unanimous verdicts of guilty on four charges of rape and four of indecent assault on dates from June 1969 to August 1971.
The 47-year-old father of two daughters had pleaded not guilty to the charges during his three-day trial. He said he could not understand why his sister, now 41, made the claims. Mr Justice Smith directed the preparation of a victim impact report and remanded him in custody for mention of the case next Monday, when a date for sentence will be set.
