A POSTMORTEM examination on the body of a man found in a ditch at Rathfeigh, Co Meath on Thursday, has revealed that he died as a result of stab wounds.

The dead man, who gardaí believe was in his late teens or early 20s, was discovered by a landowner in a drain on his land at Gilliamstown.

The scene was visited by State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jaber and an examination was carried out at the scene by the Garda Technical Bureau.

Further tests, including the taking of DNA samples, and other inquiries are being undertaken to establish the identity of the dead man.

Garda sources say they are satisfied that that body recovered at Rathfeigh is that of a male.

The family of missing Finglas man Daniel McAnaspie have been contacted by the Garda.

The 17-year old has been missing since the early hours of February 26th last.

Mr McAnaspie was last seen at about 4.30pm on Thursday, February 25th, close to Erin’s Isle GAA club in Finglas.

Gardaí have feared for some time that missing the 17-year old was murdered and that his remains had been dumped.

Crimestoppers have offered a €10,000 reward for information that would locate him.

A Garda spokesperson said last night that no link is being made with the find of the body in Co Meath and said that contact with the families of missing persons is standard procedure.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact them at Laytown Garda Station in east Meath on 041 9813320.
