A Dublin man has been jailed for eight years for manslaughter following an argument about the use of a public payphone. Mr Justice Smith described the death as "a vicious killing".
The Central Criminal Court heard that Liam Thomson (20) was stabbed in the chest by an accomplice of the accused, Stephen McNeil (22), following a fight about the use of a payphone the previous night. During the fight, McNeil handed his accomplice a steak knife and shouted, "Stab the bastard." His accomplice stabbed Mr Thompson, who died in hospital shortly afterwards.
Last January, McNeil of Rialto was convicted of manslaughter of Mr Thompson of Tallaght on January 27th, 1999. at Dolphin Road, Dublin.
