A Cork man who raped his daughter has been jailed for five years by Mr Justice Smith, the sentence to run consecutively with the five years he is already serving for raping his sister.
Mr Justice Smith said this would mean the man would serve a total of 10 years' imprisonment from November 1999, when he was convicted of raping his sister.
The 47-year-old divorced man was found guilty by a jury at the Central Criminal Court on May 31st of raping and indecently assaulting his daughter on dates from 1981 to 1987.
She was aged six to 13 years when he abused her. The trial lasted three days. The jury took almost five hours to convict him on two charges of rape and two charges of indecent assault.
It also acquitted him of other charges. He had earlier pleaded guilty to one charge of indecent assault and a nolle prosequi was entered on a further charge.
Mr Michael Durack SC (with Mr Adrian Mannering), prosecuting, noted the court had previously jailed the man for five years on the charges concerning his sister.
The State also entered a nolle prosequi on charges concerning another daughter.
Mr Justice Smith said a report on the victim indicated that "humiliating abuse" had affected her ability to form close relationships. He said sexual abuse was worse when inflicted by a child's father who should have been her primary source of protection.
The court had no option but to impose a lengthy sentence.
He refused leave to appeal.
