A man who pleaded guilty to having 74 pornographic images of children on his mobile phone has been sentenced to one month in prison by a court in Co Clare.
Chris Fahey (49), Main Street, Ballina, Co Tipperary, appeared before Killaloe District Court yesterday, where he faced one charge under the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998.
Det Garda Geraldine Goldrick of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation told the court that after concerns were expressed by a Vodafone employee about suspicious internet activity on the accused's mobile phone, a detailed check on that activity was conducted.
It was discovered that a website accessed by the accused contained images of children engaging in sexual acts, she said.
Judge Joseph Mangan said he would take into account that the accused had no previous convictions, had pleaded guilty to the offence at a relatively early stage, and had also co-operated with gardaí.
