A homeless man who wanted to go to prison was jailed for seven months yesterday. John McLoughlin (67) pleaded guilty at Dublin District Court to stealing two jumpers worth £200 from Blarney Woollen Mills, Nassau Street, on August 20th.
Garda David Finn said security men had caught the man, who had been drinking, and the property was recovered. His solicitor, Mr Declan Fahey, said McLoughlin wanted to go to Mountjoy Prison because he was barred from most of the city centre hostels. Judge Gerard Haughton imposed a six-month sentence for the larceny and a consecutive one-month sentence for failing to appear in court.
