A Dublin milkman who handed in £130 worth of forged £10 notes to Premier Dairies appeared in court yesterday. Patrick Devoy (35), of Church View, Church Street, Finglas, was convicted at Dublin District Court of uttering the forged notes to a cashier on May 13th last. Devoy denied the offence, saying he had not checked the notes, which must have been handed to him by customers as part of his £5,000 a week turnover. However, Judge Thomas Fitzpatrick was told that 12 of the notes came in the same bundle. He convicted the defendant, saying that with 15 years' experience of handling cash as a roundsman he must have been aware they were counterfeit. After hearing the defendant had no recent convictions and that the £130 had been repaid, the judge imposed a fine of £500.
