Gardaí have arrested a 25-year-old man for questioning in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in Passage West in Cork last night.
The fatal stabbing happened at around 11.45pm when a row broke out in a flat on the Cork Road and spilled out on to the roadway.
The victim (23) is a father of two, originally from Bridevally View, Cork, who lived with his partner in Holly Hill on Cork's northside.
The body, which suffered multiple stab wounds, has been taken to Cork University Hospital where Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster is carrying out the postmortem.
Gardaí on patrol came upon the incident and arrested the man for questioning about the attack. He was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and has been brought to Togher Garda station for questioning.
Gardaí, who believe the victim was visiting the other man’s flat, will await the results of a postmortem, but it is expected they will formally upgrade their inquiry to a murder investigation.
