A man in his thirties is being questioned by gardaí in Drogheda, Co Louth, following the discovery of a man's body at an apartment in the town this morning.
The body was found in a pool of blood just after 7.30 a.m. at the steps of the apartments in Mill Lane near Trinity Street.
The man has been named by gardaí as Mr Martin Murray (38) from Ballsgrove in Drogheda.
A woman in her thirties was found in a flat close to where the dead man was found suffering from serious head injuries. Gardaí said she is being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where her condition is described as stable. It is understood she is a former girlfriend of the deceased.
A post mortem examination on Mr Murray's body is currently underway.
A 31-year-old man was arrested under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at 3 p.m. and is being detained at Drogheda Garda station where he may be held for up to 12 hours. It is understood he was present in the apartment when the body was found.
