Gardaí have arrested a man for questioning in connection with the death of an elderly farmer in Co Mayo.
The body of John Gaughan (72) was found on the driveway of his home in Glosh, Blacksod, on the Erris peninsula.
Gardaí believe he was struck by a vehicle in the spot where his remains were found early on Sunday afternoon.
Mr Gaughan was last seen alive on Saturday night when he went socialising in nearby Binghamstown village. Gardaí believe he was given a lift home by a man from the area known to him.
The results of a postmortem and examinations of the scene by the Garda Technical Bureau reveal that Mr Gaughan was fatally struck by a vehicle in his own driveway.
The death is being treated as suspicious rather than as a fatal traffic accident.
A 26-year-old man was arrested at around 10.30pm last night and is being held at Belmullet Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
