A man alleged to have set another man on fire during a drinking bout later had his own house burnt down, a court heard yesterday.
Mr Anthony "Georgie" Gorman (58) appeared in Dublin District Court charged with assaulting Mr Martin Joyce causing him serious harm at the defendant's house in Glin Road, Coolock, on May 19th.
Garda Denis O'Callaghan told the court during a bail application that Mr Gorman's house had been burnt down after the incident and gardai would have to be notified of any new address.
He said it was alleged the defendant poured petrol over the victim and set him on fire as he was lying on a couch after an argument broke out among four men drinking in the house.
Solicitor Ms Jenny McGeever, defending, applied for bail saying the defendant was a widower with 10 children. Judge Miriam Malone refused jurisdiction and remanded the defendant in custody with consent to independent bail of £4,000 to appear again on June 10th.
