There were scuffles outside Mullingar District Court last night after a man appeared on a murder charge at a special sitting before Judge Aidan O'Donnell. Mr Seamus Dunne (41), Tevrin, Mullingar, made a fourminute appearance before the court and was remanded in custody to Mullingar court on November 14th.
Det Garda John Curley gave evidence of arresting the accused and charging him with the murder of Mrs Mary Cully at Tevrin on November 8th. (The townland of Tevrin is also known locally as Turin.) He said following the caution, the accused many made no reply.
Mr Pat Caulfield, solicitor, said there was no objection to the remand in custody and applied for free legal aid.
About a dozen men who had waited outside the court during the hearing hurled abuse at the accused who had to be protected by gardai.
