A man who sexually assaulted a woman after gate-crashing a party has been jailed for four years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The 20-year-old victim woke up late at night to find Gary McKinney (26), a civil engineer, trying to remove her underwear, the court heard.

McKinney had touched her and when she resisted, he punched her in the face. Two male friends of the victim broke open the door to her flat and McKinney ran naked into the street. On arrest he had confessed to gardai.

McKinney, originally from Donegal and now living at Norton Avenue, Phibsboro, Dublin, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and assault causing harm at North Circular Road, Dublin on August 23rd, 1999.
