A man who broke into a chip shop and stole a tray of cod along with cash from the till has been given a three year sentence.
Kastriot Boza (37) was also sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for another burglary at a home in Irishtown during which he took about €1,000 in cash and a credit card which he used to withdraw a further €700.
Boza, from Newgrange Road, Cabra pleaded guilty to the burglary of Enzos takeaway on Bath Avenue on October 30th, 2006 and the Irishtown home on April 4th, 2007.
Judge Katherine Delahunt said she did not believe the fact that Boza was from Albania was a mitigating factor as he has been living in Ireland for 12 years.
She sentenced him to three years with the final 12 months suspended and ordered he complete 12 months probation supervision on his release.
Garda Robert Byrne told prosecuting counsel, Noel Devitt BL, that Boza broke into the takeaway by taking the tiles off the roof and climbing in through the hole.
He smashed the cash register into pieces and took the €200 inside. He also escaped with a tray of fresh cod worth €70. Along with the damage and the thefts, the cost to the owner was €2,150.
When he burgled the Irishtown home he escaped with cash, aftershave, passports and credit cards. He was recorded on CCTV shortly afterwards in Bank of Ireland in Glasnevin withdrawing cash on the credit card.
Using the footage, gardaí tracked down and arrested him. The aftershave bottles were also found in his home.
Defence counsel, Lorcan Staines BL, submitted that his client had entered an early guilty plea and was a family man supporting a five-year-old child.
