Three women who were sexually abused as children have requested at Wexford Circuit Criminal Court that their abuser be named.
Patrick Ryan (69), Cushenstown, New Ross, Co Wexford was jailed for two years after pleading guilty to nine counts of indecent assault against the girls during a nine-year period when they were aged six to 13 years.
The offences took place between January 1978 and December 1986.
Garda Michael Walsh of New Ross Garda Station gave evidence yesterday that the first woman was abused from as young as six years of age.
Two of the girls on whom the abuse was inflicted were sisters, while the third was their cousin.
Ryan only pleaded guilty when the case came before Wexford Circuit Court last July. Before that he had been interviewed at New Ross Garda station where he denied the allegations. The court heard that an indication that a plea was forthcoming came about a month or two before the court sitting last July.
Victim impact statements in relation to the three women, who are now married, working successfully and have young families of their own, were submitted to Judge Alice Doyle.
Sentencing Ryan to six five-year prison terms, two four-year terms and one one-year term on the nine counts against him, Judge Doyle suspended the last three years in the five-year sentences, the last two years in the four-year sentences and six months in the one-year term.
He will be registered on the sex offenders list for 10 years.
