A man in his sixties has died in a collision between a car and a train at Oranmore, Co Galway.
The collision occurred at an automatic half-barrier level crossing at around 1.45 p.m. as the Dubln-Galway train was passing through the crossing. The person who died was travelling in the car. None of the 300 passengers on the train was injured.
The man who died has not yet been identified.
A spokesman for Iarnród Éireann said the company was satisfied the barrier had operated correctly and added that an investigation will take place.

The 11 a.m. Heuston-to-Galway train has been delayed as a result of the crash. The emergency services are still on the scene. Iarnród Éireann said the 15.10 train from Galway to Dublin will also be delayed.
