A man was killed when he was struck by debris from a crash on a bridge 30 feet above him in Co Cork.
Gardaí at Castletownroche, in Co Cork, are investigating the incident in which 57-year-old Peter O'Sullivan from Ballygriffin, Mallow, Co Cork was killed.
The two-vehicle crash happened at about 8 pm on the N72 at Ballygriffin on the Mallow to Mitchelstown road.
A van and a lorry travelling in opposite directions collided on the bridge. Both drivers sustained "minor injuries", a Garda spokeswoman said.
Mr O'Sullivan was understood to be tending dogs beneath the bridge when he was struck by falling debris. He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Early indications suggest debris from a damaged wall on the bridge fell on Mr O'Sullivan.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Castletownroche at 022-26161.
