Man killed in Dublin assault named by gardai

The man who died in hospital this morning after he was attacked in Dublin city late last night has been named.

The man who died in hospital this morning after he was attacked in Dublin city late last night has been named.

Martin Reilly (56) with an address at Lynch's Lane in Clondalkin was originally from Co Leitrim. The assault  took place outside the offices of the Dublin Simon Community on Island St.

He was taken to St James's Hospital, where he later died. A Garda spokeswoman said a post mortem was being carried out on the man's body.

A man in his twenties has been charged in connection with the incident under Section 4 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act. He is due before Kilmainham District Court in the morning.
 
Gardai have released without charge a 40-year-old questioned in connection to the same incident. A file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
