The man who was shot dead in the toilet of a Dublin pub last night has been named locally as Mr Paul Warren.

Gardai described the killing of the 23-year-old man from the St Teresa's Gardens area of the city as a gang-related incident.

Two armed and masked men walked to Gray's Bar in Newmarket Square off Cork Street just before 11 p.m. One man remained on guard at the door while the second walked into the bar and shot Mr Warren, who was sitting at the bar.

Mr Warren tried to escape, but his assailant reportedly shot him again near the toilet area.

The killers made their escape in a white or silver saloon car.

Dr Marie Cassidy, the State Pathologist, has carried out a preliminary examination at the scene and a full post mortem will take place later today.

According to gardaí, an estimated 20 people were in the bar at or just before the shooting and they are anxious to speak with them, particularly anyone who left before officers arrived at 11.03 p.m.

In a separate incident, gardaí in Kilmainham have launched a murder investigation following a post mortem on the body of a 41-year-old man which was discovered in a house on Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore, on Tuesday night.

The man has not yet been named.
