Two men died and two others were injured yesterday following separate incidents on the State's roads.
Gardaí have launched an investigation after a Co Kildare man was killed in an overnight hit-and-run incident. Timothy Duffy (51), of Clonkeen, died early yesterday after he was struck at Derrinturn, Carbury, Co Kildare at 8.30pm on Wednesday.
Kildare gardaí would like to speak with anyone who was in the Derrinturn area between 8pm and 9pm and saw a man walking on the road on the Edenderry side of Derrinturn.
In a separate incident yesterday, a man died after three trucks and several parked cars were involved in a crash at about 8am on the N62 outside Roscrea at Ashmere.
A 28-year-old male truck driver was fatally injured when his vehicle collided with another truck. Three ambulances were dispatched and the fatally injured man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two other truck drivers were taken to Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Nenagh, where their condition is described as non life-threatening.
The N62 Roscrea to Thurles road was closed until 6pm yesterday.
