A 25-year-old man has appeared at a special sitting of Mullingar District Court charged with sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in the town on June 6th.
The defendant, who mumbled continually and banged his head on a bench in court, was charged shortly after 3.30pm on Saturday.
When the charged was put to him by Garda Alan Clerkin the man said, “I wish to God I could take back what happened. I was out of my head on speed and drink and everything. After I ran away I thought I was tripping. I don’t know what to say, I want the girl to be okay.”
