A robber who put a blood-filled syringe to a DART passenger's face has been jailed for four years by Dublin Circuit Court.

Derek Smith (21), of St Donagh's Road, Kilbarrack, pleaded guilty to robbery, committed in January 1999.

Det Garda Martin Griffin said Smith threatened to stab his 30-year-old victim before robbing her of £6. The attack happened as the DART train they were travelling in was stopping at Kilbarrack station.

Judge Patrick McCartan told Smith he would be released on a drug rehabilitation programme when he was serious about ending his heroin addiction.
