A man was being questioned by gardaí last night in relation to the death of a woman in an apartment in Dublin's southwest inner city yesterday morning.

The woman, who was in her late 20s, was found dead in her apartment on James's Street, near the gates of the Guinness brewery, shortly after 10am.

Gardaí were called to the scene, and a man was arrested.

He was being held last night at Kilmainham Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The scene was sealed off for forensic examination, and gardaí were yesterday making door-to-door inquiries at the Anna Livia apartment block, which is part of the Oaklee Housing Trust complex on James's Street.

Neighbours said the woman had lived with her partner in the upper-floor apartment for around a year, and she worked in a nearby vegetable shop.

The James's Street apartment complex is a modern scheme of social housing units run by the voluntary housing organisation Oaklee. The complex was opened by Minister of State for housing Noel Ahern in 2005.
