Gardai were questioning a west Dublin man yesterday about the murder of two young men, whose bodies were found in the Grand Canal last January 9th. The man, who is in his mid-20s, was arrested when he arrived in Dublin on a train from Belfast.
He had been sought for questioning since the bodies of Mr Darren Carey (20) and Mr Patrick Murray (19) were found. He was taken to the Bridewell Garda station by members of the National Bureau of Crime Investigation.
It is believed that both young men were shot dead by the leader of a drugs gang from Ballyfermot. Both were heroin couriers, and Mr Murray had been arrested at Dublin Airport last November carrying £30,000 worth of heroin.
It is believed that Mr Carey was subsequently shot dead by Mr Murray's killer to ensure that he would not give evidence against him in court.
