Australian police have released a 35-year-old man they arrested in Sydney in connection with the abduction of a British couple in the Australian outback.
After eight hours of questions and checks detectives established the man had been touring New South Wales at the time of Mr Peter Falconio's disappearance, the Sydney Morning Heraldreported.
The man held is thought to have been in a van fitting the description of the vehicle driven by the attacker.
He also had a cattle dog with him when he was stopped. Mr Falconio's girlfriend told police the gunman had a dog of the same breed.
Police in New South Wales are said still to be trying to establish if there is any link with the Northern Territory ambush.
He said the man detained by police was one of many questioned because they fitted the gunman's description.
