A man is still being questioned today by police about a raid at Northern Ireland's highest security police station over a fortnight ago.

The man was among six people arrested in Belfast and Derry on Saturday in a police and army operation to find the thieves and recover items taken from a Special Branch office in Castlereagh Police Station 16 days ago.

Two men and two women -including a leading republican - were released on Sunday without charge. Another man was released yesterday.

It is understood detectives have been given an extension of the detention period for the remaining suspect.

Searches were done in the republican Andersonstown and Poleglass districts of west Belfast yesterday.

Sinn Féin has condemned the police and army actions as "ridiculous" and "highly provocative" as they occurred as republicans commemorated the 1916 Easter Rising.

Party president Mr Gerry Adams told a Easter Rising commemoration in north Belfast that republicans would not take the blame for the break-in.

"Let's make it clear to [Northern Ireland Secretary] Dr John Reid and anyone else who's listening," the West Belfast MP told a rally, "republicans will not be scapegoated and will not accept responsibility for the working out of the British agenda".
