A Belfast man appeared in court today accused of murdering his neighbour whose was discovered in a pool of blood at a block of flats.
Daniel Whyte (59), was found dead at the Hartington Court apartment in south Belfast on Friday evening.
Unemployed John Crolly (42), appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court charged with his murder and spoke only to confirm his name.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Daniel McCartney said he believed he could connect the accused with the charge. "The nature of the evidence is that we are aware that Mr Crolly was in the property at the time that this attack occurred.
"There were only two people in the property," he said. "The state pathologist has found that this is a homicidal attack which could not possibly have been committed by a self-inflicted wound."
Defence solicitor Norman Shannon said his client denied the allegation, that he regrets the death of Mr Whyte, that he was a friend of his, and that he would apply for High Court bail.
Mr Whyte was remanded in custody to reappear via video-link at Belfast on March 5th.
