A 30-year-old Chinese man has been remanded in custody after he was charged in connection with a €400,000 drug seizure in Cork.

Hao Wang was brought before a special sitting of Cork District Court today in relation to the discovery of 40,000 ecstasy tablets in the city.

Wang of Roselawn, Pouladuff Road, was charged with possession and possession for sale or supply of ecstasy at Roselawn on May 25th.

Garda Brian Murphy gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and told the court Mr Wang made no reply when the charges were put to him.

Insp Pat Meaney said that gardai were seeking to have Wang remanded in custody on both charges.

Defence solicitor, Eddie Burke said that he was not making any application for bail at this stage.

Judge Con O’Leary remanded Wang in custody to appear again at Cork District Court next Wednesday.

A chinese woman arrested with Wang has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the DPP in relation to her.
