A man has been remanded in custody in relation the death of a man in Dublin last September.

A man has been remanded in custody in relation the death of a man in Dublin last September.

Gardaí announced yesterday they had charged a man in relation to the death of David Whyte in Palmerstown.

A man was arrested in the Lucan area in connection with Mr Whyte’s death. He was brought to Clondalkin Garda Station where he was charged at 5.05 pm.

Simon Griffin (44) of Ballyfermot Road, Ballyfermot, was charged under Criminal Law Act 1997 with impeding a person from apprehension or prosecution for involvement in the murder of Mr Whyte. He was brought before the Dublin District Court this morning.

Detective Sergeant Denis Smith told the court that Mr Griffin made no reply when he was cautioned.

Judge Hugh O’Donnell queried whether the defendant’s health problem was a “matter of some delicacy” and consented to the request that medical attention be given to him.

He granted legal aid and remanded the accused in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court on December 22nd.

The body of Mr Whyte (35) from New Cabra Road, was discovered at a derelict graveyard near Stewart’s Hospital in Palmerstown on September 26th. He had been stabbed repeatedly. It took detectives three days to identify his body.
