A 31-year-old father-of two has been remanded in custody after he pleaded guilty to the murder of a 20-year-old woman who was found with stab wounds at her home in Co Tipperary less than a year ago.

Kevin Prendergast of Knockeen, Grange, Clonmel, pleaded guilty to the murder of Joanne Mangan at Ballynamuddagh, Clonmel on October 16th 2007 when he was re-arraigned at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork today.

Prosecution counsel Tom Creed SC applied for an adjournment to allow him take instructions in respect of a second charge against Prendergast of assault causing serious harm to Edward Mangan on the same occasion.

Mr Justice Paul Carney said it seemed a reasonable application in the circumstances and he adjourned the matter until 11am tomorrow and remanded Prendergast in custody to that time.
