A man (26) has been remanded in custody charged with rape and robbery of a woman in Waterford this week.
The unemployed man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged yesterday in connection with an attack on a woman in a carpark behind a pub in Waterford city centre.
The woman was assaulted and her mobile phone was stolen in the incident, which took place at around 3.00am on Wednesday.
Gardaí examined the scene on Wednesday and carried out door-to-door enquiries.
The man was detained for questioning on Wednesday before being released. He was taken in for questioning again on Thursday before being arrested and charged at around 5.10pm.
Waterford District Court was told the man was replied "I didn't rape her" when charged.
He was remanded in custody to appear before at Waterford District Court next Friday.
