A man was rescued from the sea off Dunmore East, Co Waterford yesterday evening after his fishing boat sank.
The Dunmore East lifeboat and a helicopter were called just before 6.30pm to assist the man, who was eventually found floating in a life boat.
The rescue effort was hampered by heavy fog, but an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon deployed by the vessel helped guide rescuers to the man's location.
A spokeman for the Dunmore East Lifeboat Station said that the incident showed the importance of having proper safety equipment on board sea-going vessels.
