The body of a man in his 20s was recovered from Lough Swilly in Donegal by Garda divers yesterday morning, several hours after the car he was travelling in spun off a bridge at Drumnahough, outside Letterkenny.

He was named later by gardai as Mr Mark Gallagher (21), of Killygordon, Co Donegal.

A second man who escaped from the vehicle to raise the alarm was later arrested.

The accident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on the Port bridge outside Letterkenny, when the car crashed through a barrier and into the estuary. The men were believed to be returning to the town from a night out in Derry. They were both thought to be from east Donegal.
