The body of a man has been recovered from the sea near Castletownbere following a search operation co-ordinated by the Irish Coast Guard.
The body was found by Castletownbere RNLI Lifeboat near Pulleen Harbour at around 3pm.
The alarm had been raised at around 1.30pm when a member of Castletownbere Irish Coast Guard team spotted an upturned boat while out walking.
The Irish Coastguard Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre at Valentia immediately began a search operation and Castletownbere Lifeboat was launched.
The Irish Coastguard Sikorski Helicopter at Shannon, Rescue 115 was also tasked to assist, as was the Irish Coast Guard inshore lifeboat based at Castletownbere.
The body of the man, who is in his 60s and from the area, was brought back to Castletownbere Pier by the lifeboat and has been removed to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem.
The tragedy is the second at sea in the Beara Peninsula in the space of a week, following the death of 58-year-old John O'Leary in a sailing accident on Monday night.
Mr O'Leary from Barness in Allihies was out sailing with his son Christopher when their 16-foot dinghy capsized off Cod's Head north of Allihies.
Christopher (18) managed to make it ashore after swimming for over an hour but Mr O'Leary perished and his body was later recovered by Derrynane Inshore Community Rescue Boat.
